“Leaves,” an unlikely composition, grew out of a personal assignment in my ninth-grade high school music course in exchange for classwork I was unable to be present for. Being a choir project, the music was originally accompanied with lyrics written by Linda Lane and Sharon Morse and presented in four-part harmony. Over the years, “Leaves” has been through several renditions. This final version retains the piano part almost exactly as it was originally composed. Complemented with simple, yet dynamic orchestral instrumentation, it remains one of my most often requested songs despite my having had only two years of piano playing experience and less than one year of lessons at that time it was written.
