Composing with a very distinct idea in mind, I imagined a group of musicians gathered in the studio and throwing ideas around. One of them (in this case, the acoustic guitarist) begins strumming out something, and everyone else joins in. Quite literally, that is how “Lingering” came about. I thought I knew precisely the way it was going to turn out even though it wasn’t composed in advance of my playing or recording it. However, it evolved as I got further into it.
